For every iconic cereal, there is one that has been forgotten. It could be because people didn’t like the taste, it was a product of its time, or because it was always meant to be limited. And unlike some cereals, like Oreo-O’s before it made its return, people have forgotten about them. But we haven’t! We’re here to look at some forgotten cereals and ask if they should be revived for a new generation.
#1: Donkey Kong Cereal (1982-1983)
The ’80s arcade craze brought us some interesting ways to bring the arcade home, including cereal. Donkey Kong Cereal was shaped like the famous gorilla’s barrels, and as you could see on the box, you could even win an arcade cabinet. Researching the contest, however, I couldn’t find any proof that a kid won this. Also, the commercials were entertaining, having an animated Mario fighting DK as kids ate the cereal. Mario even said, “Here we go,” over a decade before Super Mario 64 made that phrase famous.

In 1983, Donkey Kong’s son got his chance to shine. Donkey Kong Jr. got his own fruity cereal similar to Trix. Afterward, DK hasn’t been on any cereals. With him getting a makeover for the Switch 2 era, it’s time for the monkey to make his return!
