Given our long evolutionary history, it’s understandable that humans may have made some minor mistakes along the way. With little effort, though, it’s possible to change certain things (almost all of us have developed new recycling habits or even workout routines, right?). However, there are other mistakes, such as our pronunciation of some famous brands, that we may never be able to change. We incorporate these words into our vocabulary in a particular way, and realizing that we’ve been saying them incorrectly our entire lives comes as a surprise to many.
#1: Nike (Pronounced NIGH-key)
How many times have you said “Nike” in your life? It would be easier to count clovers in a field. The brand is valued at $29.9 billion, but not even all the money in the world could make people pronounce it correctly. If you’re one of those who say “NIGH-key” when they see the famous accent mark, congratulations, you are in the small percentage of well-spoken people.
