#4: Terry
A female Cairn Terrier named Terry became one of the most successful animal actors in early Hollywood history. Her owner, Carl Spitz, trained her at his Hollywood Dog Training School. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cast her alongside Judy Garland in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, where she played Toto. Terry earned a weekly salary of 125 dollars, which actually exceeded the wages of many human actors on the set. She survived a broken foot during filming and went on to appear in 16 movies, including Bright Eyes (1934), Ready for Love (1934), and The Women (1939) before her death in 1945.
