Mrs. Doubtfire was supposed to be a wholesome family comedy and while that’s what we thought for years, let’s look at it from a different perspective, shall we? Daniel Hillard could have been patient and taken his time to deal with the divorce in a sane manner. Instead, he disguises himself, lies to his family, stalks them, and even prevents his ex-wife from moving on.
Can we just say how creepy and mentally unstable that sounds? The easier thing for him to do would have been to get a job and create a decent living environment but apparently, that was too difficult for a grown man to achieve. Let’s not forget that he also almost killed Stu with the cayenne pepper “prank.” Wholesome? We don’t think so.
