The Sherlock Holmes Stories made Arthur Conan Doyle famous in the late Victorian era. Despite this, Doyle grew frustrated with the character’s popularity and killed him off in 1893. Public backlash later forced him to revive Holmes, showing how audience demand can override an author’s wishes.
