American Horror Story’s Real-Life Inspirations, Ranked by Accuracy

Another lesser-known inspiration hides behind Kit and Alma Walker, the young interracial couple in Asylum. Evan Peters and Britne Oldford play a white man and a Black woman living their romance under the radar… until she vanishes, supposedly abducted by a flying saucer. The characters draw directly from Barney and Betty Hill, the couple who claimed aliens kidnapped them in 1961 in New Hampshire. John G. Fuller documented their story in The Interrupted Journey, which spawned the 1970s TV movie The UFO Incident and resurfaced in Taken. Asylum takes the core of the story (the couple, the abduction, the doubt) and wraps it in its own horror. The Hills lived it for real; the Walkers, not so much.
