#20: The Columbine Shooting – “Piggy Piggy” (2011)
Tate Langdon’s school shooting is one of the most recognizable real-world references in Murder House, even though it’s not a literal retelling. Tate’s 1994 attack shares several visual and narrative elements with the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School. However, the similarities are more of a cultural touchstone. Tate remains a fictional character with his own timeline, motive, and personal history created for the show’s plot. The two perpetrators of the real event in Littleton, Colorado, took their own lives after killing 12 students and a teacher. The series uses the imagery of a real tragedy to build a fictional ghost story, keeping the horror but changing the facts.
