The Head of the Statue of Liberty, Displayed in Paris, 1878
This is one of the most surprising photographs we have ever seen. We’ve all seen this building process of the statue, but to see its iconic face displayed at a city park is just incredible.
This photograph was taken seven years before the statue was shipped across the Atlantic as a gift from the people of France to the United States. The exhibit was part of the famous 1878 World’s Fair that took place in Paris and introduced the world to new and incredible machines, ideas, and art. During the process of building the statue, the French people were given a ‘sneak peek’ at the highly anticipated lady that went on to become one of the most iconic symbols in the world.
