Illegal Alcohol Poured Onto Street During Prohibition
From 1920 to 1933 in the United States, the country was forced to adhere to strict alcohol laws, in a period known as prohibition. During the prohibition era, businesses and individuals could not manufacture, store, transport, sell, possess, or even consume alcohol. The only legal alcohol usage was medical.
During that time, thousands of secret bars and liquor stores existed hidden from the prying eyes of the law. As you can see in this pic from 1929, the illegal alcohol in this building in Detroit is being poured onto the street. Luckily for these people, they weren’t arrested and spent in jail for trying to sell some beer.
