#22: Murphy Waters

G.C. Murphy Co. (or Murphy’s) was founded in 1906 and became a big name in small-town five-and-dime stores. In 1970, they opened a larger store called Murphy’s Mart, and by 1980, they had 446 locations. Ames bought them in 1985 and gradually rebranded the stores before Ames itself went out of business in 2002.
