#17: Henry’s Hamburgers
Henry’s Hamburgers was founded in 1974 as an expansion of Breseler’s, an ice cream chain. Henry Bresler was one of the founders of Breseler’s, and the restaurant was dedicated to his memory. At the time, Henry’s ruled and went toe to toe with McDonald’s.

Promoting cheap, quality burgers helped. They used to sell ten burgers for a dollar, which is around $10 in today’s money. However, mergers and ownership changes in the mid-70s meant that Henry’s was no longer there—except if you go to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where you can find the one surviving location. Sadly, the burgers aren’t that cheap these days.
