The white whale
All the way from Ponta Delgada, this huge white whale is part of an art exhibition created by the Arm Collective in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. The whale covers the whole wall of a building. The creature symbolizes how humans are treating nature and slowly destroying our planet. Global warming, the finishing industry, the disappearance of coral reefs – you name it! The sad giant white whale is lying there, exhausted. His skin is full of stabbing marks.
There is a small house hooked with ropes into the whale’s wounds. The whale lies on the dry ground, while the sea comes out from behind, underneath the tail. The water is dirty with just a paper boat floating the wave. If sea creatures will continue to suffer and die, what will remain of humans? Perhaps just a paper boat.
