Puebla, Mexico
One of the biggest Carnivals in Mexico is the Carnival of Huejotzingo, Puebla. Two thousand people participate in this carnival. The participants are divided into four battalions, which are identified by costume. Starting on the first day, you will hear the sounds of blanks being fired in mock battles between the battalions.
These are enacted using fake guns while using real gunpowder. The inspiration for the dance is the Battle of Puebla. Another part of the festivities is the reenactment of two stories. The first is one of the kidnappings of the mayor’s daughter. The second is one depicting the first Christian marriage in Mexico.
