The Chapala Carnival is held in the city of Chapala. The city is filled with Victorian architecture. The Chapala carnival celebrations takes place in the park along the pier. This celebration includes loads of feaivitiea such as rodeo events, parades, music, dancing, carnival rides and more.
One of the many unique traditions of the Chapala Carnival is having a masked male dancer. These dancers are called Sayacos. They wear wide hats and have long beards. Others have been known to dress in drag wearing women’s clothing. The Sayacos are carnival characters that go further back than the Spanish conquest of 1520.
