Goa, India
The Goa Carnival is one of the few Mardi Gras celebrations that can be found in Asia. It started around 1510 when the Portuguese occupied India. The Goa Carnival is similar to those in Brazil and Portugal. It includes floats, parades, costumes, and a leader of Carnival called King Momo, the legendary king of chaos.
Fire-eaters, acrobats, clowns, jesters, dancers, as well as brass bands follow him during the parade down the main street of Panaji. You will also see people throwing colored dust on each other. This aligns with the Hindu festival of Holi. The red-and-black dance is held by the Clube Nacional in Panjim.
