Sydney, Australia
Sydney, Australia has an annual Gay and Lesbian parade where thousands of marchers show up to participate in the celebration. It dates back to 1978, which makes it one of the newer Mardi Gras traditions. It had a violent and rocky start due to Australian laws, but had now become the biggest celebration of pride in the LGBTQ! community. The Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival is one of the events that take place during this period.
Another big event held during Mardi Gras in Sydney is the Sissy Ball. This ball is held in celebration of LGBTQ! pride and is known for its extravagant and flamboyant guests and entertainment. Every year has been better than the last, a tradition I’m sure will continue.
