Krewe, Lake Charles
Lake Charles’ Mardi Gras events start off in early January with the Twelfth Night celebration. Over fifty krewes present their royal courts during this inaugural event. In the weeks that follow parades are held throughout the city. This is all leading up to the biggest celebration on Fat Tuesday. It is called the Krewe of Krewes Parade.
People from the community come out to watch the parade, catch doubloons, and consume large quantities of Gumbo at the Gumbo Cook-Off. There is plenty of fun for people of all ages and tourists come from miles around to join in the fun. While it may not be as well known as New Orleans, Lake Charles has grown in popularity.
