San Juan, Mexico
The San Juan Carnival is held in San Juan, Mexico every year. It is a very different kind of carnival celebration. This carnival has more pre-Hispanic rituals that date back to the days of Mesoamerica. It is centered around the five lost days of the Mesoamerican calendar. The Mesoamerican calendar is the solar calendar cycle. The calendar contains three hundred and sixty nine named days.
There are also days with no names. The carnival celebrations here include people who run through the streets with burning tree branches and re-enact Chiapan military battles. They also perform very traditional dances. Visitors travel from all over the world to witness these celebrations.
