In Spain, the Gran Caneria Carnival of the Canary Islands is considered to be second only to Brazil’s in terms of pageantry and popularity. The opening parade is usually scheduled the Friday before Carnival. Every year, locals get together to vote to choose the Carnival’s theme, which have ranged from Carnival on Ice to Fantasy to The Renaissance to New York.
