#5: Little Shop of Horrors Once Let the Plants Win
Onstage, the actors who have just died can rise for a bow. Frank Oz discovered that cinema audiences do not receive the same comforting reminder. His first cut of Little Shop of Horrors (1986) preserved the conclusion of the off-Broadway musical: Audrey dies, Seymour is eaten by Audrey II, and cuttings from the carnivorous plant spread across the country. What follows is not a quick final joke but an elaborate miniature spectacle lasting more than twenty minutes, with enormous plants climbing buildings, attacking cities, and eventually filling the screen.
