#4: Victoria’s Secret’s “Perfect Body” Campaign

A line of very slim lingerie models stood beneath three words that caused nearly all the trouble: “The Perfect ‘Body.’” There was a piece of branding behind the phrase. Body by Victoria was the name of the lingerie collection, and the wording was supposed to play on that product title. Shoppers, however, were looking at a photograph of women who all fit a similarly narrow beauty ideal. The quotation marks did little to stop many viewers from reading the slogan literally.
