#14: McDonald’s “Dead Dad” Commercial
The young boy keeps searching for a resemblance to the father he barely knew. His mother describes Dad’s appearance, personality, and talents, but nothing seems to match. Eventually, mother and son stop at McDonald’s, where the boy orders a Filet-O-Fish. His mother smiles. That, she tells him, was his father’s favorite too. Finally, the child has found a small connection. The emotional construction was clearly intended to be tender, yet bereavement groups questioned why the grief of losing a parent had been turned into a route toward selling fast food.
