The United States has hundreds of animals found nowhere else on Earth. Scientists call them endemic, and each one reflects the wild, weird places where it evolved. Some hide in plain sight, others look like plush toys with survival skills. All of them have serious charm. We ranked some of these species by pure cuteness, spotlighting tiny climbers, desert acrobats, and coastal oddballs. #1: California Clownfish
The California Clownfish cruises along the Pacific coast, weaving through kelp forests and rocky reefs like it owns the place. Officially called Amphiprion percula californicus and described in 1850, it grows to about four inches and sports bright orange scales with bold white stripes. It shelters inside sea anemones, immune to their sting. Then Finding Nemo happened, and Disney turned this little reef resident into the fish everyone now calls Nemo.
