New York City

This photo captures the location of the flatiron building in 1850 at the crossing of Broadway and 5th Avenue, prior to it’s opening in 1902. The building was later named the Flatiron for its resemblance to a clothing iron, becoming one of the most iconic buildings in the world.

The entire neighborhood surrounding the building was renamed the Flatiron District, and was designated as a National Landmark. As you can see, the streets of New York were incredibly different back in the mid 19th century.
