This photo captures two aircraft carriers with the New York City skyline in the background. This photo was taken before the construction of the Intrepid Museum on the West Side, so this was quite a sight to see for New Yorkers.
The carriers made their way to New York for a post World War II Navy Day address by President Truman following the big win over the axis powers.
