Chris Chronicles His Challenges
Drawing from Chris McCandless’s personal diary entries, Jon Krauer revealed intimate details about McCandless’s life at the bus in the wilderness. McCandless had carried not more than a ten-pound bag of rice and a rifle into the Alaskan wild, a meager stockpile for survival. Despite the seemingly impossible odds, he was no stranger to such a lifestyle, having lived on the road for approximately two years prior. Tragically, McCandless’s adventure in the wilderness did not turn out as he had envisioned.

Chris had managed to trap a few minor creatures, but the moose he had hunted down, a prized catch that could have fed him for several weeks, was rapidly overrun with maggots, spoiling the meat before he could adequately clean and preserve it.
