1971: “Hotpants”
Instead of hiding under big skirts and weirdly shaped bras, in the beginning of the seventies, women (and men, we’re not here to judge) embraced their natural body lines and figure, all curves included. The short shorts, later known as the hotpants, were the expression of that. The purpose of the pants was opposite to anything we’ve seen so far: to accentuate women’s natural curves.

The hotpants, as the name suggests, were extremely short shorts, some would say even scandalously short, and as fitting for the time – high-waisted. As you can imagine, they were considered quite controversial, but perhaps that was part of their appeal for women who partly wore them to make a statement, and partly because they were simply too hot to care.
