1942: Free the thigh
You might have thought that the high-thigh slits rocked by celebrities on the red carpet is a modern trend, but it dates back to the beginning of the forties. In 1942, American actress Rita Hayworth raised eyebrows when she wore a floor-length gown with a twist – a thigh-high slit up the front.

Since then, the slit became a regular fashion trend for actresses and women in the show business. Today things are no different, and the slit is still a popular look on the red carpet, with some celebrities even taking it to the next level by raising the slit a few inches, which make a dramatic difference, or even having two slits, one on each leg!
