1984: Lace bound

In the mid-eighties, Madonna decided lace wasn’t just meant for lingerie, but it was meant to be seen. She rocked an all-lace outfit, which, naturally, inspired women around the country to do the same. Lace gloves were a bit too much for a casual, everyday attire, but lacy tops weren’t off-limits.

This wasn’t a prominent a trend as others that preceded or followed it, but it was a brief trend that left its mark on us. Lace dresses are still around today, but somehow, they seem moderate compared to Madonna’s revolutionary lace outfit. Lace these days is a nice addition to dresses, but you hardly ever seen all-lace dresses.
