1954: Swimming accessories
To accommodate the bikini craze, the swim caps were a huge thing during the fifties. The swim cap was a must-have accessory during the fifties, partly to protect your new ‘do, and partly, as we suspect, because people simply liked how the looked. Go figure.
The notorious swim caps came in different designs, and the boldest ones included colorful floral attachments. The swim cap wasn’t invented in the fifties, but that’s when it made an impressive comeback and became an indispensable accessory of the fashion industry. The forties saw a sink in the popularity of swim caps due to rubber shortage, and so in the fifties, they were back in their full glory.
