1972: Oriental style

Turbans – where did they come from? Probably precisely where you would expect – from the East. The draped turban, which was particularly popular during the early seventies, has been around for a very long time. It goes back to the 18th century and oriental influences, when the Western trade with India flourished, and with it the awareness of different fabrics.

In the 20th century, the draped turban had once again risen in popularity when fashion designer Paul Poiret revived the “oriental” styles.
