New research released some few hours ago suggests that obesity costs United Kingdom £47bn a year posing the greater burden on the UK’s economy than armed violence, war and terrorism.
The study carried out by McKinsey, a consultancy firm found that obesity costs the UK almost £47bn pounds a year, more than the amount spent in fighting terrorism in the United kingdom.
It blames the problem on an inadequate response from the government, and describes its policy on obesity as “too fragmented to be effective”.
It is believed that more than 2.1 billion people worldwide – or nearly 30% of the global population – are suffering from obesity and it is estimated that the figure will rise to almost half of the world’s adult population by 2030, according to the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), which carried out the report.
Further finding by Constative News reveals that while most countries the world over, especially Europe and America are worried about the effect of obesity, Nigeria and indeed most Africans seems not to be bordered about the consequence of being over-weight.
Apart from the health implications, being over-weight could be a serious source of anxiety, and those who are obese are known to be having some form of low self esteem. Do you feel comfortable in that giant potbelly of yours?

LOL… Don’t you know obesity can kill someone before 2015. So if Nigerians die of obesity before 2015, who is going to vote in the election?
