An apple a day keeps the doctor away, they say. There could be no truer statement than this seeing as the apple contains certain nutrients that help to keep our health in check. Eating one apple a day can so positively affect our health that we may not need to visit a physician in a long time.

The apple is a fruit in the rose family. It is made up of 17% of fiber and 11% of vitamin C among other minerals and nutrients.

Lets take a look at the various health benefits of apples.

Firstly, apples contains 2.4g of dietary fiber. With this, it helps to reduce bad cholesterol in the body and increase good cholesterol. The fiber in apples helps to reduce cravings by making you feel fuller for longer while maintaining a healthy digestive system. Also, eating an apple daily is an healthy way of detoxifying the liver and preventing the growth of tumor in the cells as well as cancer. Apples are low in fat which makes it perfect for weight loss.

Secondly, Apples are rich in antioxidants like quercetin and vitamin C which help to prevent heart diseases and cancer. It prevents the formation of plaque in the arteries which in turn prevents heart diseases and stroke. Plus the fact that it helps maintain healthy eyes. In a study of 34, 000 women in the U.S, apples are said to be responsible for the reduction of the risk of heart diseases in women.

Again, eating an apple before workout will help to increase your metabolism and endurance. The fiber helps keep you full while making oxygen readily accessible to your lungs as you exercise.

It also helps to maintain healthy lungs. Studies have shown that certain nutrients present in apples are capable of reducing the risk of asthma and other lung diseases.

The fact that apples are low in calories and fat can not be overemphasized as this is its selling point. Rather than indulging in fatty foods and snack, it is better and healthier to eat apples and to replace your snacks with healthy fruits and vegetables. This will help to maintain good health and remove unwanted fat from your body. Don’t forget, you can stay healthy by eating apples.
