Nurses Sometimes Sugarcoat or Withhold Information
If you’re at the hospital for special treatment or surgery, don’t expect your nurse to give you all the details. As a nurse put it, they usually avoid telling patients all the risks and benefits as this information should ideally come from the surgeon or clinician performing the procedure.

Similarly, they may even withhold some information from family members such as when someone needs to be placed on a “Do Not Resuscitate” order. Families are emotionally attached and having a hard time processing their own grief anyway to fully understand how difficult CPR is for an old or critically ill patient.
