Patients Owe Them Their Lives
Contrary to popular belief a nurse is not a doctor’s assistant neither are they the patients’ scrub-wearing private butlers. Sure, a nurse will smile, ask a patient how they’re doing, and take care of their needs but their main job is to keep them alive. Sometimes that means putting forward their own opinion to the doctor and at other times it could also mean putting a patient’s needs over their wants.

As this nurse put it wisely, if a nurse feels that giving the patient another dose of pain meds will not help his breathing, they will simply not give it…no matter what he says.
