Pictures from Classic McDonald’s Restaurants from the 80s and 90s

December 6, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Back when you could still smoke inside

Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, patrons could enjoy a burger, fries, and shake while sucking on cigarette after cigarette. Although the smell of french fries would mask the foul odor, it probably didn’t play well with the child-friendly experience they were trying to achieve. So, starting by the end of 1993, all indoor smoking areas were removed permanently.

Many adults and teens probably remember the amber-colored ashtrays sitting in the middle of every table in the smoking room. If you want one of these ashtrays for your home, private sellers sell them in bundles. They’re pretty cheap, too, so get them while they last. Or, you know, stop smoking.
