Pictures from Classic McDonald’s Restaurants from the 80s and 90s

December 6, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

The floating restaurant

Not many of us can imagine a floating McDonald’s restaurant. We certainly couldn’t, that is until we saw this picture. This is what the infamous floating McDonald’s outlet, aka the McBarge, looked like during its heydays in Vancouver. The McBarge stayed afloat for roughly five years before management decided to abandon ship.

In 1991, the restaurant became the victim of treacherous waters and trespassing, so instead of spending countless dollars and manhours of constant maintenance, they decided to close shop. The McBarge is still afloat to this very day, and some people have even recorded their adventures inside the decrepit building.
