The country’s name Macedonia is believed to have meant “highlanders” or “the tall ones”, and it is derived from the ancient Greek. Here are some facts about Macedonia.

1. THE NEVER EATEN FOOD

Macedonians do not joke with food.  They ensure food is at every formal occasion.  What is funny is that they hardly ever eat it!  And if ever, they eat very little.

2. WORLD-POWER STATUS

Macedonia gave birth to the greatest conqueror in human history. He was Alexander The Great.  Going by that, Macedonia could be said to have once had a “World-Power” status. Sadly, Alexander the Great died young.

3. NO-SHCEDULES CULTURE

Macedonians are known for fixing no visit appointments. They come over unannounced and at any time!  So you just have to be prepared always.

4. KING OF OPIUM

The opium with the highest quality is the Macedonian.  It is known to have an incredible 14 M.E.  Opium from Pakistan has half of that, ranking second.

5. IGNORED LEGAL TENDER

Macedonian legal tender is the Denar and Cents.  But Macedonians hardly ever use the cents!  Strangely, they round everything up to the nearest Denar.

6. WEIRD CAR PARKING

In developed societies, sidewalks or pavements are for pedestrian traffic.  In Macedonia, however, sidewalks or pavements are used for driving and parking . . . not for walking!

7. CATAPULT INVENTION

Dijad, from the period of Alexander the Great can be called the father of the modern military engineering.  This is because he invented the catapult and many other things which were instrumental to military successes at his time.

8. NUDITY IN NEWSPAPER

Nudity is not a rarity in Macedonia.  Even in daily newspapers!  Seeing naked women in the daily newspaper is very usual and almost daily in Macedonia.

9. THE TITANIC LINK

One of the 12 survivors of the Titanic was a Macedonian. His name was Stojko Dodolovski.  When the ship began to sink Stojko jumped into the ocean. Several hours later, he was picked, save with the other 11.

10. STYLISH IN HYGENE

Macedonians take pride in smelling good even after doing the big one.  Why?  Well, their toilet paper is scented!  Is that funny or what?
