Under the sea
You might be wondering what this thing is and how exactly it’s related to the sea. This is the cross-section of an underwater cable. Currently, there are around 380 undersea cables, also known as submarine communications cables, around the world, and their main function is to carry communication signals across stretches of ocean and sea.

This is what the cross-section of these undersea cables look like – not quite what we imagined (o the other hand, we’ve never really imagined what they looked like). It allows you to see the inner mechanism of the underwater cables. The more you know, right? It’s pretty amazing to learn more about these cables, what they look like and how they operate.
