Here’s a woman who could put a lot of men to shame with her mane. Although it’s not the longest beard of all time, it is the longest beard known to womankind! The proud woman behind the beard is Madame Deveree, who capitalized on her unique gift by joining the circus as a sideshow, earning as much as $500 per week at the peak of her career, more than the president at the time!
Madame Jane Deveree (b. 1842) of Bracken County, Kentucky, is in the Guinness Book of World records for having the longest beard grown by a woman, measuring an impressive 36 cm (14 in) in 1884. Still, she couldn’t compete with the longest beard of all time, which was grown by – shocker – a man, Hans N. Langseth of Norway, measuring at 5.33 m (17 ft 6 in) in 1846.
