Over the many years since Walmart began as a retail store, it has taken over as one of the most popular and highest earning retail corporations in the entire world. This is from many years of alterations, widespread locations, and increasing inventory that this grocery store can offer.
Now Walmart is a household name, and most people in the United States live close to one. Not only does Walmart dominate the United States but also owns many other grocery store chains in other countries which puts them over much of their competition.
But, many of us don’t know much about the history of this chain or how it really came to such popularity. That’s why we’re here today to tell you some really interesting facts about Walmart and its history.
World’s Largest
In the decades of existence of Walmart as a corporation and business, this company has climbed its way to world domination in both earning and employment throughout many countries. Walmart averages around $100 billion more a year in money made over its closest competitors if not much more.
The company has effectively become the most influential and biggest family-owned business in the entire world.
German Failure
When attempting to make a hold in other countries, the corporation’s expansion did turn out quite well in some places but not in others. In fact, bringing American attributes, values, and behavior into the German market did not go well.
The company lost a lot of money and its chance at having a place in Germany’s bustling economy since Walmart refused to change towards German behavior and values for the store chain.
Odd Expansions
The order of expansion for Walmart didn’t really make sense when looking back at how it expanded out on a map. In fact, even though the company began in the United States it wasn’t actually in many of the 50 states until late in the expansion plans.
And once they did expand that far, Walmart had already started corporation attempts in Mexico and Canada that had taken off well. In fact, Vermont was the last state to get a Walmart in 1995.
Negative Sides
As you probably know if you’ve looked around online or in the news regarding Walmart and its locations, the company has had a great deal of unsure footing when it comes to people’s opinions on the ethics and behavior of these stores.
Crime has heavily increased to do with Walmart, from theft to more violent crimes occurring at these stores. Walmart has also been criticized for their use, or misuse, of their wealth and the way that employees are treated as well as ethics issues.
No matter whether you’ve been in a Walmart (or Walmart-owned store) near you in your lifetime or not, these facts can be pretty intriguing to learn about for your own knowledge or for something new to think about the next time you visit one of those stores.
Walmart as a corporation has been and continues to be a massive force to reckon with for other grocery store chains around the areas that their stores are located. It provides us with so much inventory that you can find almost anything you need from just one trip or from a look online at the stores’ websites.
But there’s definitely something interesting about being able to attach some more concrete facts and tidbits to your knowledge about these crazy popular stores.
