Morocco is a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea on the western side. It is bordered on the east by Algeria and on the south by Western Sahara. The capital is Rabat. Moroccan cultural influences are dominated by Berber, Arabian, and European. Here are ten weird facts about Morocco you never knew.

1. LISTED PRAYER TIMES

The exact time for each of the five times daily Islamic prayers are listed in the local newspaper each day!

2. WEEKEND BEFORE WEEKEND

Moroccan weekend falls on Thursday and Friday.  All other days are workdays.

3. WATCH WHEN YOU EAT

During fasting, expatriates are exempt in Morocco. But they must not eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke in public.

4. GREATS POSSESSION

Honor is the most cherished possession; and it reflects on even the extended family.

5. NEVER GET SHAMED

If a person is shamed by behaving inappropriately, he/she could be ostracized by society, even by family!

It is viewed as odd to open a gift immediately or right in the presence of the giver.

9. WATCH HOW YOU WASH

At meal, people do not wash hands with the water in the basis. They hold their hands over the basin while water in another container is poured on the hands.

10. “YES” MAY ONLY BE POLITE

When Moroccans agree with you in public, it might just be because they don’t want you to lose face.  They are non-confrontational by nature.

    A lot of stuff is not correct. If you copied the fact about another Arab country like Egypt, at least check with a Moroccan. Peace

    Many things are not true here, for example the weekends are actually saturday and sunday!
