Her Remarkable Career
During Johnny Carson’s time on “The Tonight Show,” Ellen got her start as a stand-up comic. She made it to the top of Showtime’s list of America’s funniest people in 1984 after years of struggling as a comedian. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she went on to star in two sitcoms, “Ellen” and “The Ellen Show.”

She has been awarded 30 Emmys and 20 People’s Choice Awards, attempting to make her the most successful person in the latter category. At the Golden Globes, she was presented with the Carol Burnett Award. This year, she will host the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
