The European Union Election Observation Mission has described as unprecedented, President Goodluck Jonathan’s congratulatory phone call to opponent and his conceding of defeat in Saturday’s Presidential Election.
They also described President Jonathan’s statesmanship as worthy of emulation by not only African leaders, but leaders across the World.
The EU Chief Observer, Mr. Santiago Fisas, stated this today, shortly after a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan during which a Preliminary Report of the Mission was presented to the President at the Aso rock Villa Abuja.
Mr. Fisas said the peaceful elections were an indication that the country had come of age democratically, having achieved free, fair and credible exercise.
Mr. Fisas said their discussion with the President focuses mainly on their observation during the election as the final report would be presented in July having concluded the State’s election scheduled to take place within the next ten days.

Observation Missions had earlier presented similar reports to the president before the missions’ leaders left the country.
In another development, the PDP Governors led by Chief GodswillAkpabio of AkwaIbom state have paid a solidarity visit on President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock.
Governor Akpabio told State House Correspondents, after the meeting, that they were at the Villa to commend Jonathan for sacrificing his political ambition for the sake of Nigeria.
He said despite the outcome of the presidential election, the PDP governors remained undaunted and ready to prove the substantial relevance of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial polls
The governors in attendance included, Theodore Orji of Abia, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Liyel Imoke of Cross River State.
Others were Idris Wada of Kogi, Emmanuel Uduaghan of (Delta); Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe, Mukthar Yero of Kaduna, Jonah Jang of Plateau, and Sullivan Chime of Enugu state.
