The continued protest over the real winner of the PDP primary election held in Lagos recently continues to linger.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the People Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain the status quo on the contentious primaries held in Lagos over a week ago, in which Mr. Jimi Agbaje emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2015 governorship poll.
The court has fixed December 23 for the INEC and PDP to appear before it, while for the meantime, Agbaje, the acclaimed winner of the primary has been forbade to stop parading himself as the party’s candidate until the suit before it was heard.
Meanwhile, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a Lagos state governorship aspirant under PDP platform, had pleaded the court to compel the party not to accept the result of the primaries held on December 8, due to alleged over-voting at the exercise.
His reasons were that a total of 806 accredited voters were announced at the commencement of voting, but 866 delegates later voted.
Obanikoro also asked the court not to recognize Agbaje because, according to him, Agbaje is a newbie, who joined the party barely six months ago, and as such, was morally unfit to contest for governorship, since the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had not given him a waiver.
Chief Olabode George, was also alleged to have come to the venue with thugs to scare accredited voters loyal to Obanikoro away from the venue.
Obanikoro, is seeking for an outright cancellation of the exercise and he prays the court to rerun the election at a date yet to be fixed.
