Crowd of APC Members Defect to APGA in Anambra

November 18, 2014 by Kelly Davies 3 Comments

It was a turn of event in Awka Anambra state at the weekend as  large number of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Anambra State, led by the party’s former State Chairman, Chief Amechi Obidike, defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Receiving the crowd of APC Willie Obiano assured them of room for all. According to him, they are wholeheartedly welcomed, saying “the APGA is a party for all in Nigeria, but above all, it is the party for Ndigbo and should be embraced by all Ndigbo wherever they are in the country.”

” As long as you are an Igbo son, or daughter,  APGA is open to all Nigerian citizens and has its bedrock and foundation in Igboland. Therefore it’s our identity”, Obiano added.

The governor also urged the Igbos without mincing words,  to vote APGA everywhere the are. He pointed out that APGA adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as it’s presidential candidate long before his own Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined in his adoption. He said APGA shall file brilliant candidates for all elective positions in the forthcoming general elections, apart from the presidential slot.

Also the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, said he was happy to witness the event. He said he welcome them with open hands, believing they would help to build and strengthen the party.

There were assured  of equal rights and privileges with old members, with praises to God that it’s evident the blockade preventing core Ndigbo from joining the party is now off.

He also said that the party is waxing stronger and looks good to making in-roads to other states in the South East and other parts of the country during the coming general elections.

Obidike, a former state chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, and former state chairman of the APC who led the new members said they would have moved long before now, but had hoped in vain for restructuring and provision of level play field for all.

He led the former woman leader, youth leader, organizing secretary, larger number of the state’s 21 council chairmen, their excos and others said to be numbering about four thousand to APGA.

And as if they were being expected long before now, they were instantly provided with APGA uniforms and membership cards.  we also need not forget in a hurry that just 2 months ago, some key APC leaders in Aguata, led by Chief Ben Oranusi, joined APGA.
