A nearly invincible creature
You’ve probably seen a picture of a tardigrade before. They’re more commonly known to us non-sciencey folk as water bears or moss piglets (cute). These are microscopic, eight-legged animals first discovered in the 1770s by Johann August Ephraim from Germany who referred to them as water bears. We’ll be calling them moss piglets from now on.
Anyway, moss piglets are everywhere, from the bottom of the ocean and deep in jungles. They’re also incredibly resistant to nearly anything you throw at them. Scientists even brought moss piglets into space for research purposes and found that they could survive the harsh vacuum of space.
