Grotesque markers
Not all interesting facts are uplifting. Some are oddly grotesque and will dampen your day quite a bit. For instance, did you know that nearly 5,300 have successfully climbed Mount Everest? Being the tallest mountain in the world, you’d think that figure would be a lot lower.
But that’s not the oddly grotesque part. Despite the high number of success stories, there are at least 295 cases of failed climbs, with the climbers’ bodies and gear scattered all over the mountain. Since recovering the bodies is nearly impossible, new hikers use them as markers for their journey. What a sad ending to someone’s dear life.
