If you’ve been on the internet anytime in the recent weeks, chances are you’ve seen something on social media or news pages detailing the events and live footage of a court trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. These two are both actors that were once married and have since split as well as had a major blow up with accusations of abuse from Amber that led to Depp losing much of his career and reputation. The trial aims to find the truth behind this issue, as Depp has many behind his cause and appears to be the one that was actually abused. What’s been going on? And what do you need to know? Here are some important tidbits and updates on Johnny Depp and Amber’s trial.
Recent events meant it was time for Amber Heard to come to the stand for her own defense. Depp already went through extensive questioning by her lawyers, much of which was quite pointless to those watching as it often talked in circles and created more confusion than answers. Heard coming to the stand meant there was a great deal of new evidence played that hadn’t been used thus far, and afterwards more individuals were brought up to the stand by her defense which seems to have created even more of a mess.
Two individuals involved in Amber’s past life were on the stand, one testified that Amber had in fact hit or shoved them over a simple argument in the past. Another claimed to have heard Depp threatening Amber when he accused her and another friend of defecating on his pillow one night and was angry over it. Latest evidence was a covertly filmed event in 2016 where Depp was slamming a cupboard and pouring wine while aggressively asking “You want to see crazy?” before the camera cuts out. There was little to no context for the event.
This seems to be a running issue with much of the evidence in this trial, pieces are being used from both side’s testimonies and past that aren’t fully given in context or explained what was happening when a specific image, video, audio clip, or event happens. But the trial has been ongoing for such a long time that even the judge is tiring of the back and forth between these two. Seventeen days have passed since this trial began, and it should be closing at the end of the next week.
Much of the early trial spoke to Johnny’s childhood and the abuse he suffered from his mother, as he often would run away and try to hide from the abuse which is exactly what many audio recordings from Amber mentioned and mocked him for. Heard even admitted to hitting him in one recording used as evidence, but of course her main argument and her lawyer’s arguments in that time were that she was physically quite smaller than him which is why it was justified.
The internet has taken the trial by storm, many edits being made of different instances or compilations of statements that fans and viewers find interesting, funny, or annoying in some way. Plenty of sources continue to live stream and clip the trial for online viewing, so you can definitely find somewhere to get up to date or watch the whole thing easily.
Now that you know a little more, you can either tune in to the updated court trials or at least have some background knowledge when the topic pops up online in the future. We’re unsure how this case will resolve in the end, but it’s certain that millions are tuning in for the sake of domestic violence solidarity as well as in support of whichever actor they prefer. Many things that have come up in this trial are experiences many of us could never imagine or would never want to relate to, but domestic violence and spousal abuse is a severe issue and it’s quite important for this to have come to light. Hopefully you learned what you wanted to know about this trial today, and we will see how the events come to an end.
