Preity Zinta was born on 31 January 1975, into a family from Rohru in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, India. She studied at the Convent of Jesus & Mary boarding school in Shimla and St. Bede’s College, Shimla. Zinta graduated college with an English honors degree, and then started a graduate programme in psychology.
Zinta joined the film industry after she accompanied a friend to an audition, and was asked if she would audition too. After her brilliant performance at the audition, one of the coordinator at the audition Shekhar Kapurhat, a film director and producer insisted that she become an actress.
